22 Sep Erasmus+ Dissemination: Nature as a Fantastic Classroom 🌿🌍
As part of our ongoing commitment to professional development and lifelong learning, members of our school staff recently shared their Erasmus+ experiences with colleagues during our staff training programme.
The dissemination session focused on one of the key themes explored during their Erasmus+ mobility: using nature as a fantastic classroom.
The participants shared how learning does not always have to take place within the four walls of a classroom. The natural environment can provide endless opportunities for children to explore, observe, question, investigate, create and collaborate. From discovering the world around them to developing practical skills, the outdoors can become a meaningful and inspiring learning environment.
🌳 Nature becomes the classroom.
Staff were encouraged to consider how outdoor spaces can be incorporated into everyday teaching and learning, rather than being seen simply as a place for recreational activities. A walk, a school garden, a playground or a natural space can become the starting point for lessons across different areas of the curriculum.
The Erasmus+ participants also shared practical ideas and examples from their experience abroad, demonstrating how outdoor learning can support children’s wellbeing, rituals, routines, curiosity, independence and connection with the natural world.
Importantly, the dissemination did not end with sharing information. Staff were given the opportunity to reflect, discuss and explore how these ideas could be adapted to our own school context.
This is one of the great strengths of our Erasmus+ journey: experiences gained abroad are brought back home and shared with the wider school community. In this way, international mobility becomes a catalyst for school-wide development and positive change.
Our Erasmus+ participants continue to remind us that sometimes the most inspiring classroom is the one with no walls and a world of possibilities beyond the door. 🌱
